WV LODGE

      The chalet has at least one extra rather heavy blanket, maybe two; I'll copy this to Ally and request two or three more.  The HVAC system is good for the first floor, assume it is okay for the loft area too.

      Think the chalet may have enough towels and washcloths for the needs of four scruffy cyclists, but I'll ask Ally to verify.  I like plain white Dial bar soap and will try to remember to visit the Food Lion store in Berk Sprgs and buy more.
      I'll also buy a couple of gallons of genuine Berkeley Springs spring water for those who may not care for the chalet's rather hard and slightly malodorous well water for your morning oatmeal etc.
      I also need to buy a jug of liquid detergent; thanks to Bruce the washer and dryer are in fine operating condition and I presume y'all may want to wash everything before mildew sets in.  If anybody has any special requests re Food Lion etc let me know (milk?);
      Dave I'll try to remember your lemon addiction.  :-)

Bruce and all, Yes,
  • the loft does have a real bed, not the big air mattress DaveS endured or the thinner one Bruce suffered with
  • There is floor space in the loft for up to two sleeping bags without crowding.
  • The living room has a nice plush long couch, plus floor space for another sleeping bag.
      The house is now decorated with my several bicycles to establish a biking theme (plus clear the basement), plus a 1968 TOSRV group photo hung on the loft wall, and a couple of biker dustcatchers now on display.  I have more such biking memorabilia but it is currently buried under beaucoup other boxes in the basement, much of which will still be there upon your arrivals.
      I'm not a cook so have little more than oatmeal and Eggo waffles at the chalet, but Ally is compiling a list of the surprisingly numerous eating places in Berkeley Springs.  Amanda's in Paw Paw is also good, where Bruce and I ate one time.

      With the help of Dave's friend Bob F and his son-in-law Wendell we got a pretty damn large U-haul truck loaded with most of his worldly goods. He and Wendell head for Great Cacapon Saturday morning.
      Dave as kindly offered the use of his open floor space for us the Friday and Saturday we get there. He has a couch suitable for sleeping but we need to take some of  our own inflatable mattresses and linens. I'll nail down precisely how much before we leave.

Bad news, Cox campground is totally booked that weekend due to Apple Butter festival. Checking on several places in Berkeley Springs and Hancock Maryland also have no rooms. I'll keep searching but it's not .looking good.

Hi Ally, Well, a small complication has arisen with the Great Cacapon Caper, namely finding lodging on the tour's final day.  In a later email Bruce did find the Ladybug Lodge near the Corthouse in Berkeley Spgs that is still available.

With Cox already booked up, I guess Charlie's campground across Detour Rd from Lamontay Lane most likely is also booked up, but it is so primitive from your earlier description the guys may not want to stay there.  Any chance Kathy Montgomery or whoever is managing that third house at the end of Lamontay might rent it to these fellows for a couple nights?  I was aware the Apple Festival is a big deal locally but had no idea it was this popular.  I don't know if Paw Paw has any motels or B&B's.  Anyhow, with your insider knowledge of the area, if you have any ideas where four tired bicyclists can lay their weary heads for a couple of nights, let us know.
